O'Grady's parents are Jim O'Grady who is a financial advisor, and Jan O'Grady. She was raised by her parents who resided in Wheaton located in Illinois and then graduated in 1981 with a degree from the Wheaton North High School. She appeared in some commercials prior to moving from Wheaton, Illinois to Los Angeles. The career path O'Grady started her career as the model of Montgomery Ward, and well having a number of commercials. She starred in the 1988 romantic comedic film, She's Having a Baby.
